Hedging Plant Spacings

These tips are designed for gardens, allotments and general planting to provide shelter and privacy, where a single row of hedging plants usually is sufficient.

Bare rooted plants up to 100 cms tall approx. with little side-branch formation:
e.g. Hawthorn, Beech, Hazel, Sloe, Willow Typically 3 – 5 plants per metre

Pot grown plants up to 70 cms tall with typically well-developed side-branch / feathered-branch formation:
e.g. Hawthorn, Beech, Hazel, Sloe, Willow, Laurel, Portuguese laurel, Holly, Yew, Berberis, Privet, Photinia: Typically 3 plants per metre

Pot grown plants 70 – 150 cms tall with typically well-developed side-branch / feathered-branch formation:
e.g. Hawthorn, Beech, Hazel, Sloe, Willow, Laurel, Portuguese laurel, Holly, Yew, Berberis, Privet, Photinia Typically 2 plants per metre
